Bio

Steven J. Anderson, CAPT (Ret.) USPHS, P.E., MS Civil Engineering, is a distinguished leader and seasoned professional with a remarkable career in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS). With a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University, Steven's expertise spans across a spectrum of civil engineering disciplines.

Throughout his tenure in the USPHS from 1999 to 2021, Steven served in various regions including American Samoa, Saipan, Guam, Marshall Islands, Alaska, and CONUS. His responsibilities were diverse yet focused primarily on civil engineering projects aimed at promoting public health and safety. Steven's portfolio includes the construction of critical infrastructure such as water systems, wastewater systems, solid waste systems, hospitals, and clinics. Additionally, he has played a pivotal role in environmental remediation efforts and managed disease elimination and prevention programs.

Steven's dedication to service extends beyond routine assignments, as he has been deployed to assist with numerous natural disasters, including hurricanes, tsunamis, and humanitarian crises. Notably, he provided support during the 2021 Southern Border crisis and the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Orleans.

As a leader within the USPHS, Steven sought out and excelled in challenging leadership positions, notably serving as the section lead for Applied Public Health Team #3 (APHT3). These teams were instrumental in providing critical public health support during disasters, showcasing Steven's ability to thrive under pressure and lead teams to success.

Throughout his career, Steven has demonstrated a deep commitment to serving underserved communities, particularly Indigenous and Pacific Islander populations in remote locations. He has also been actively involved in humanitarian assistance missions, driven by his passion for making a meaningful impact on people's lives.

Recognizing the importance of addressing underlying biases within populations, Steven remains dedicated to advocating for equity and social justice in healthcare and public health interventions. His collaboration with Dr. Allard-Blaisdell to secure donations for under-resourced schools in Grenada exemplifies his commitment to improving communities worldwide.
